A Discipleship Guide From the Teachings of Jesus
Pastor Don Kimbro
It was surreal. I was in Nazareth. Yes, that Nazarethat seven o'clock in the morning. Sitting around me were twelve disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ,
pastors and teachers who had been called by God to proclaim the gospel message to their culture in Israel. I was there to teach them how to become a true
disciple but in all honesty after having been with them for a few days, I felt like I could learn much more from them than I could ever teach them. Their lives,
reputations, livelihood and future were on the line everyday in Israel. They were Arabs evangelical Arabs who were surrounded by Jews and Muslims. And
they were deeply committed Christians.
Our setting was within walking distance from where Jesus gave his first sermon at the synagogue of his childhood home. Here I was, an invited American pastor,
charged with teaching the understanding of the message of discipleship, using our Lord's own words to men who themselves were born, lived and would probably
die in the land of our Savior's birth, death and resurrection.
"Open your Bibles to Matthew 28:18-20," I spoke through my interpreter. And the journey would begin.
Jesus said,
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations . . . "
