The book of Numbers begins with the counting of Israel’s fighting men, seemingly mundane stuff. However, it is precisely details like this found throughout the beginning of this book that makes possible for Israel to remain a united people. The God we serve is orderly and He wants that order reflected in those called by His Name, a characteristic found both in Old Testament Israel and in the New Testament church.
